Muscle Combat Pro Review

As a fitness enthusiast, we’re always on the hunt for the best, and newest products out there to give us a leg up and help us reach our goals faster.

We are also very skeptical, and some of us aren’t very easy to convince.

The industry of supplements and protein beverages can be cutthroat sometimes, and just as we’re all looking for a way to push ourselves forward, some businesses do the same to advance themselves, but fall short when they try to cut corners.

You might recognize Muscle Pharm as being in the large black tub, with the Hulk-green font. It’s hugely popular among consumers, and Muscle Pharm is a company that is widely recognized in industry circles as well, unfortunately, not always for the right reasons. From padding the boss’ expense account leading to corporate resignations, to lawsuits involving the “spiking” of one of its best known products, they’ve definitely got some things surrounding them that would make any skeptic’s alarms go off.

Even with all the controversy, Muscle Pharm is still an award-winning sports nutrition company, with many retailers still carrying their products. The spiking controversy involved their Arnold  Schwarzenegger line of products, which were dissolved in May of 2016, so it wouldn’t be fair to drag their other offerings into the ground without a fair overview.

One of their popular protein blends is the Combat Whey mix that’s still selling very well. Regardless of past offenses by the company, people are still purchasing this. Let’s have a closer look and see why.

OVERVIEW

Whey protein is whey protein—you know what you’re going to get when you buy a whey supplement. What sets Combat Whey apart is a few things. First, the added BCAAs and glutamine, which give it a  boosted amino acid profile. Second, their protein blend which (according to them) gives eight hours of protein release in three stages (fast, medium, slow), from their five different protein sources.

Ingredients:

  • Micro Filtered Protein Blend (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Hydrolysate, Micellar Casein, Egg Albumin)
  • L-Glutamine
  • L-Leucine
  • L-Valine
  • L-Isoleucine
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Alanine
  • Lysine
  • Arginine
  • Glycine
  • Histidine
  • Tyrosine
  • Cysteine
  • Methionine
  • Phenylalanine
  • Proline
  • Serine
  • Aspartic Acid
  • Threonine
  • Tryptophan
  • Inulin
  • Natural and Artificial Flavors
  • Sodium Chloride
  • Acesulfame Potassium
  • Sucralose
  • Soy Lecithin
  • Potassium Citrate

Their use of high-quality proteins is a huge plus for us. They use micellar casein vs. the cheaper alternative calcium caseinate for their slow-release protein. Their hydrolysate and isolate are used for the fast-release stage, and the whey concentrate used for the medium release. If you know anything about these different types of proteins, you know that they are each individually used for those effects, and the claims are backed up.

  • 1.5g total fat
  • 5g carbs
  • 2g sugar
  • 25g protein

As Muscle Pharm has come under extreme scrutiny thanks to all the controversy, it’s not uncommon that people look at their products a little sideways. That being said, this blend has undergone many lab tests, by trusted third party sources, and many individual reviews taking it upon themselves to test as well.

Combat Whey scores fairly high on LabDoor.com, except for ingredient safety where they lose some points for using the artificial sweetener acesulfame potassium.

This might be why some people have criticized the blend for being too sweet. While it scores high on a scale from 1-10, hovering around a 7 or 8, there are many reviewers that complain that it’s too sweet.

PROS

  • High-quality protein blends used
  • Minimal carbs, sugar, and fat
  • Added aminos and glutamine
  • Taste

CONS

  • Negative brand association due to prior controversy
  • Taste (some flavors, most commonly vanilla, too sweet)

CONCLUSION

There aren’t a whole lot of cons with this protein blend. Nitpickers, naysayers, and skeptics have all tried to find something wrong with it but to no avail. Of course Muscle Pharm is aware that after all the negative press, their products are going to be under the microscope, and this reflects their dedication to turning things around over there at headquarters.

Combat Whey is a blend that gets the job of delivering precious proteins to your hungry muscles done, and contains high-quality proteins and aminos to do so.

Maybe they’re trying to overcompensate a bit with the taste, but we’ve only heard really bad things about the hardcore sweetness from their vanilla flavor.

If you’re looking for a reliable blend of great protein, snag some of Muscle Pharm’s Combat Whey blend—it’s in the gigantic black tub, you can’t miss it.
