Best Tasting Protein Powder Brands (The Complete List)

There’s Nothing Like A Cold Delicious Glass of Protein After A Workout –

The Best Tasting Protein Powder Brands:

One of the most popular questions we receive from our readers is “What is the best tasting protein powder?”

While we’re well aware that taste is not often top of mind for hardcore fitness enthusiasts when considering different powders since they’re primarily focused on results, there’s a select group of people who simply cannot stomach bland, chalky shakes, despite claims of their effectiveness.

While the reality is that you can’t expect your shake to taste like a decadent dessert, it’s certainly more rewarding to enjoy a creamy, tasty and refreshing milkshake that also serves as a protein powerhouse after you’ve just endured a tough and grueling workout.

Keep in mind as you review our list that it does not take into account protein quality, integrity or analysis of ingredients (even though we love to do that!), it is simply a response to the plea of our many fans who have asked us to rank our favorite tasting protein powders. These are protein powders that we could easily drink every day of the year without ever getting tired of them.

The Top 10 Most Delicious Protein Powders Of All Time:

10) Syntha-6

syntha 6

Syntha-6 by BSN is truly a delicious protein powder from the same makers of True Mass that comes in a variety of flavors, including:

  • Banana
  • Chocolate Cake Batter
  • Chocolate Milkshake
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Cinnamon Bun (exclusive)
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Peanut Butter Cookie
  • Strawberry Milkshake
  • Vanilla Ice

Even though Cookies and Cream is usually our default favorite flavor of new products, we really enjoyed the Vanilla Ice Cream and Strawberry Milkshake flavors, as they truly taste like milkshakes commonly made with creamy ice cream. BSN really hit the mark ensuring that this product tasted great and didn’t leave behind any chalky residue.

Syntha-6 is also one of the early pioneers of protein shakes (along with Muscle Milk) that not only taste great but also serve as a source of protein that you find yourself thinking about incessantly and craving during your workouts.

9) BPI Whey HD

While its name may make it sound more like it belongs at a local tech shop than a nutrition store, this quality protein blend is one of the best-tasting on the market, thanks to its advanced flavoring technology.

BPI Whey HD is available in six primary flavors, including:

  • Vanilla Caramel
  • Milk and Cookies
  • Strawberry Cake
  • Granola Crunch,
  • Chocolate Cookie
  • Banana Marshmallow

One of our favorite shake recipes using BPI Whey HD includes a scoop of the Banana Marshmallow powder blended with almond milk, a tablespoon of almond butter and ice, as this creates a creamy, refreshing blend that satisfies hunger and cravings for sweets.

What’s especially appealing about this powder is that it doesn’t clump and has a nice clean taste, allowing for a tasty serving of protein that goes down smoothly.

8) Syntrax Nectar

Fuzzy Navel

Syntrax Nectar is a classic powder that is widely recognized by many fitness enthusiasts. Anyone who has used protein powder to help build muscle for a lengthy period of time has likely heard about or tried Syntrax Nectar at some point.

Syntrax offers a variety of exotic flavors, including:

  • Apple Ecstasy
  • Caribbean Cooler
  • Crystal Sky
  • Dragon Fruit Fusion
  • Fuzzy Navel
  • Lemon Tea
  • Pink Grapefruit
  • Roadside Lemonade
  • Strawberry Kiwi
  • Twisted Cherry
  • Wild Grape

Syntrax Nectar is the ideal choice for anyone who is interested in adding some tropical flavor to their diet. While its array of flavor options is quite extensive, our favorite is Fuzzy Navel, which has a sweet, citrusy fruit flavor that is similar to that of a juice blend, as well as a subtle, milky aftertaste.

Its juice-like flavor originates from Gardenia fruit juice, which is very light, not overly sweet and doesn’t leave you with a chalky aftertaste.

When it comes to tantalizing the taste buds, Syntrax Nectar’s Fuzzy Navel hits a homerun!

7) Muscle Milk

Muscle Milk

Muscle Milk has been a longtime staple for fitness enthusiasts and college students when it comes to using a best-tasting protein powder, as they often enjoy its creaminess and flavor profile.

This is an especially appealing powder for those who wish to avoid powders that leave behind large, undesirable clumps at the bottom of their cups.

Whether you blend Muscle Milk with regular milk, nut milk or just plain water, the result is a great-tasting milkshake-like product that is easy to drink.

Muscle Milk produces a number of delicious flavors, including:

  • Banana Crème
  • Chocolate
  • Cookies N’ Crème
  • Strawberries N’ Crème
  • Vanilla Crème
  • Blueberries N’ Crème
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Graham Cracker
  • Mocha Latte
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate
  • Strawberry Banana

Although its quality is sub-par to other options available on the market today, Muscle Milk ranks high on our list for flavor alone.

If you are looking for a delicious powder that leaves you wanting another sip, Muscle Milk will rarely disappoint. Check out our Muscle Milk review for our staff’s in-depth analysis on this blend!

6) Intek Evolution, Isolate

Intek Evolution is one of our favorite tasting protein shakes because it is straight-up delicious.

It’s five tasty flavors include:

  • Chocolate
  • Vanilla
  • Cookies N’ Cream
  • Blue ICE
  • Red ICE

It’s Blue and Red ICE flavors offer a fruit juice sweetness for anyone who needs a little variety from the traditional protein powder choices.

When considering its fruit flavors, we preferred Syntrax Nectar’s Fuzzy Navel over the Blue and Red ICE varieties. However, Intek Evolution’s Cookies N’ Cream flavor was among our favorites in this protein powder blend, as it is made with real cookie bits.

The powder is naturally gluten free and contains a superlative ingredient list that includes extremely high-quality Whey Protein Isolates and Stevia, which is used as a natural sweetener alternative to sugar.

The Intek protein is called “gourmet” for a reason, as its impressive ingredient list, delicious flavor, and appealing texture makes it highly enjoyable for everyday use.

5) Cellucor Cor-Performance

Cellucor Cor

Cellucor Cor-Performance Whey is a protein blend that we’ve only recently explored. After receiving some samples to try out, we were highly pleased with the overall taste and texture.

Cellucor Cor-Performance Whey Protein is available in 10 primary flavors, including:

  • Cor-fetti Cake Batter
  • Cinnamon Swirl
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Mint Chocolate Chip
  • Molten Chocolate
  • Peanut Butter Marshmallow
  • Red Velvet Cake Batter
  • S’mores
  • Strawberry Milkshake
  • Whipped Vanilla

While most of the flavors tasted great, the flavors that really set the bar included Cinnamon Swirl and Peanut Butter Marshmallow.

Since its flavors are so delicious on their own, this powder requires no additions to make it taste better. Simply add the powder to plain water, mix and enjoy!

4) Magnum Quattro

Magnum Quattro

Magnum Quattro is one of the lesser-known brands on the market but delivers some of the highest quality ingredients that we’ve found to date.

If you are unfamiliar with this powder, you’ll be glad we informed you about its delicious varieties, which include:

  • Chocolate Love
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Addiction
  • Half-Baked Cookies and Cream
  • Pure and Simple
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

While each flavor had something different to offer the palate, Vanilla Ice Cream was our favorite.

The key to Magnum Quattro’s success is in the quality of its ingredients, as it contains a combination of four high-quality isolates and essential fats, and is free of lactose.

3) Jym Pro Jym

Jym Pro Jym

Jym Pro Jym is another delicious protein powder that made our list but is not widely known in the fitness community.

Jym Pro Jym was created by Dr. Jim Stoppani and comes in four primary flavors:

  • Chocolate Cookie Crunch
  • Cookies and Cream
  • S’mores
  • Vanilla

Unlike most brands that offer one or two good flavors with the others rating lower in taste, each of Jym Pro Jym’s flavors tasted great; however, our favorite variety was Chocolate Cookie Crunch.

It’s no surprise that Jym Pro Jym tastes as good as it does because Dr. Stoppani put a great deal of effort into developing this blend and clearly didn’t cut any corners.

He used a number of quality ingredients in the blend, contributing to its overall taste.

Similar to Intek Evolution, Jym Pro Jym uses real cookie bits in its cookie-flavored protein powder instead of artificial products that simply resemble cookies. This protein powder blend is definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a great-tasting, easily digestible supplement.

2) Dymatize ISO 100

Dymatize Iso 100

Since the Dymatize Iso 100 is so heavily marketed, it wouldn’t surprise us if you’re already familiar with the brand. It is highly popular among protein supplement users and is commonly found on the shelves of GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe.

When it comes to taste, ISO 100 ranks high on our list and comes in 10 delicious flavors, including:

  • Gourmet Vanilla
  • Strawberry Smoothie
  • Banana
  • Gourmet Pina Colada
  • Gourmet Chocolate
  • Fudge Brownie
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Cinnamon Bun
  • Birthday Cake
  • Orange Creamsicle

Many protein supplement companies casually use the word “gourmet” when naming their flavors in hopes of attracting people to their products. However, unlike brands that use the term loosely, Dymatize actually backs up their label with a protein blend that uses quality ingredients and tastes delicious. Each variety is made with stevia extract, which serves as a zero-calorie, all-natural sweetener.

Some of our favorite flavors of ISO 100 include Birthday Cake, Gourmet Vanilla, and Orange Creamsicle.

1) UMP by Beverly International

UMP Protein

Ultimate Muscle Protein (UMP) is a well-established manufacturer of protein powder that produces high-quality, great-tasting blends. Although we only discovered this powder a few years ago, the brand has been used by fitness professionals for decades and is often considered a favorite because of its great taste.

Its variety of flavors available include:

  • Vanilla
  • Chocolate
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Rocky Road
  • Strawberry

Many of its users have given it rave reviews, stating it’s the “best protein drink they’ve ever tasted” and “it mixes well and tastes great.”

Since UMP is extremely versatile, you can add it to smoothies or mix it with cold water for a delectable shake with no artificial aftertaste.

UMP tops our list and is truly one of the best-kept secrets in protein powders. Check out some of the great shakes and desserts that you can create using UMP protein!

We hope you enjoyed our review of the top 10 best-tasting protein powders. In order to provide an unbiased account throughout our taste-testing process, we did our best to ignore the other variables that usually sway our decisions when it comes to ranking protein blends, including the ingredients and quality of protein.

Remember that this list was designed to only recognize powders with the best taste and that some of these powders contain quality ingredients (i.e. Intek Evolution, UMP and Jym Pro Jym), while others (i.e. Muscle Milk and Syntha-6) contain ingredients that we deem as unnecessary and ineffective (artificial flavors and fillers).

In a world where many protein shakes are clumpy and even more leave behind an unsavory aftertaste, these 10 brands leave us looking forward to our next encounter.
